What Really Happens During an Install Day?

If you follow us on social media, then you’ve definitely seen our install days. The reels of furniture going in, the before-and-afters, the final reveals with every last detail thoughtfully in place… giving chef's kiss everywhere you look!

We live for sharing the beautiful, finished spaces, but even though it may seem like it all happens overnight, the reality is that install day is the result of extensive planning, tons of organization, and countless details coming together over the course of weeks, sometimes even months.

Everything That Happens Before Delivery Arrives

Long before a single moving truck pulls up to our projects, there is an entire behind-the-scenes operation in place to ensure everything runs smoothly on install day.

Furniture is ordered, and shipments are tracked (shoutout to Jenny, our procurement manager, who keeps every order moving and every vendor on schedule).

Every item that comes through our doors is inspected by Katie, our warehouse manager (aka the queen of quality control). If pieces don’t arrive directly at our warehouse, they’re coordinated straight to our movers with a plan already in place.

From there, everything is stored safely in our warehouse. We label every single item by room. Sofas, nightstands, chairs… everything. That way, when it arrives on-site, there’s zero confusion about where items belong.

Detailed floor plans and installation layouts are created so placement is 1000% intentional. We map out exactly where each piece will live, down to the spacing, proportions, and traffic flow. Styling plans are also finalized during this stage (think items like art, accessories, & pillows), and every last touch is accounted for.

And because design is real life (and real life means surprises), we always build contingency plans. We have plans for alternate accessories, backup styling pieces, and adjustments ready for those inevitable hiccups.

The Early Morning Start

Install days start early! So coffee is most definitely required. Our team is onsite, moving trucks pull up, delivery crews arrive, and everyone is locked in!

  1. BUT! Before a single piece of furniture comes inside, our first priority is to protect your home. Floors are covered. Foot booties go on. Mats are laid down for dollies. Corners and walls are protected where needed. By install day, we’ve spent so much time planning and preparing that this home is our baby, too!

  2. Once everything is prepped, rug pads and rugs go down. They anchor the space and protect your floors, creating the foundation.

  3. Then, large furniture pieces are placed according to the plan we’ve already mapped out. We keep detailed layouts printed and taped near the main unboxing areas, so the whole team can see exactly where each piece belongs.

Yes, there are boxes. Yes, it’s loud. Yes, a lot is happening at once. But this is organized chaos; the kind that only happens when a detailed plan is being executed exactly as intended.

Once the Furniture Is Delivered and Unloaded on Install Day

The momentum continues! Boxes are being cut open, plastic wrap is flying, and packaging piles start stacking up quickly, but this is where the transformation really begins.

Our team is everywhere all at once, in different rooms, with different tasks, but all moving toward the same goal. We are unwrapping art, assembling lamps, tightening hardware, and removing tags. Every single piece starts finding its home.

And even with a plan in place, we aren’t married to it! Sometimes what works perfectly on paper needs a slight tweak once we see it physically in the room.

Interior Styling on Install Day

This next part takes a lot, and we mean A LOT of patience, but it is well worth it! The styling layer is one of the last steps to bring everything together.

●      Pillows get fluffed

●      Open shelving & spaces get styled (and restyled… and restyled again)

●      Accessories are layered in

●      Mirrors & art are hung

●      Beds are made (and steamed) to perfection

The styling layer may seem tedious, but it’s what makes a home feel complete, elevated, and entirely pulled together. It’s where all of those carefully selected details finally align.

The Final Walkthrough

Before you ever step inside, we step back. We walk room to room, catching all of the final details:

  • Adjust lighting

  • Tweak angles

  • Straighten art

  • Edit accessories

  • Fluff pillows (just one last time)

Sometimes it’s moving a chair one inch, and sometimes it’s removing an accessory entirely. We adjust until we get the “yes, that’s it” feeling.

The Reveal Moment After Install Day Is Complete

EEEKKK our favorite part of it all…you walk in!!!

This is the emotional payoff. We are feeling all the emotions: joy, relief, excitement! Sometimes, even happy tears. Because all the months of decision-making and the trust you placed in us are finally here! And no matter how many installs we’ve done, these reactions seriously never get old. They are why we do what we do!

What Most People Don’t Realize

  • Install days are very physically demanding. We’re lifting & moving furniture, climbing ladders, and on our feet for hours. It’s hands-on from start to finish.

  • It requires serious organization. Every delivery window, every room layout, every installation detail has to align.

  • It’s a true team effort. We wouldn’t be able to do this without working together with warehouse managers, movers, installers, and trades. Install day only works because the entire team is moving toward the same vision.

It’s creative, yes. But it’s also strategic, coordinated, and collaborative.

Why Install Day Matters

Install day isn’t just about placing furniture. It's the culmination of honoring your investment, delivering trust, and turning drawings into real life. It’s about creating homes that are functional, intentional, and unique to those who live in them.
